Snake knot

A round knot that produces a firm, slightly spiralling rope. It uses less cord than a cobra for the same length.

Tying it

1. Fold two strands and start with a loop at the top.
2. Pass the left strand under the right and back through its own loop.
3. Repeat from the right, keeping the loops the same size.
4. Tighten each pair before starting the next, working down the piece.

Notes

Even tension matters more here than in flat knots. A loose pair shows as a bulge that cannot be pushed out afterwards.
