Knot Just Jigs

Round braid

A braid rather than a knot. Round, flexible and the standard construction for a lead that has to run through the hand.

Material use

roughly 35 cm per finished centimetre for four strands.

Tying it

  1. Anchor four strands and keep them in a fixed order.
  2. Take the outer left strand behind two and back over one.
  3. Repeat from the right, keeping the same rhythm.
  4. Pull each pass down before the next, or the braid will open up.

Notes

Six and eight strand versions follow the same logic and give a thicker, rounder result. The count has to be even.
