Monkey fist
Three sets of turns at right angles to each other, tightened around a core. Round, dense and the most satisfying knot on this list to finish.
Material use
roughly 1.5 metres for a small fist around a 20 mm core.
Tying it
- Make three or four turns around two fingers.
- Take the working end at ninety degrees and wrap around the first set.
- Insert the core, then make the third set through the first and over the second.
- Tighten in the same order as the wraps, one pass at a time, several times over.
Notes
Tightening is the whole job. Rushing it gives a loose ball that goes oval within a week.
