BioThane and adapters
A coated webbing that is waterproof, easy to clean and does not hold odour. Common in dog gear for exactly those three reasons.
Why it is used
Braided cord absorbs water and mud. BioThane does not. For a collar that goes through ditches every week, a BioThane base with a braided decorative panel is the combination that survives the winter.
Widths
Thirteen, nineteen and twenty five millimetres cover most work. The width has to match the hardware: a nineteen millimetre buckle will not take twenty five millimetre webbing, and forcing it damages both.
Adapters
Adapters join a braided section to a webbing section without stitching. They come in the same widths as the webbing and in leather as well as BioThane, and they are the reason mixed collars can be made without a sewing machine.
